Is a snowblower considered to be 2 stage when it has an auger in the chute? What are pnumatic tires? is there a big differene between a 5hp and a 7hp snowblower. I only know tractors.

A snowthrower is a single stage unit where the power of the "throw" is made by the auger. A snowblower is a two stage unit where the auger feeds a Fan that blows the snow.
Pneumatic tires are tires filled with air.

5 or 7 hp are pretty close in size, however the 7 would be more likely to be a two stage,5hp 2 stages are out there too.
As soon as the unit stars to lug down, such as in heavy or wet snow, auger and impeller(fan) speed drop off, reducing performance and throwing distance.Single stage units handle"dry/fuffy" snow well and a 5hp is prolly adequate. The extra hp of a 7hp and two stage system perform better in heavy wet deep snow.Pneumatic(air filled)tires grip better than hard plastic and tires/tubes can be repaired instead of replacing the whole wheel/hub/tire assy.If buying a used unit from private party, and they're not on it ASK them about the tire chains, often hanging on a nail somewheres, they REALLY make a difference although the newer"Sno-Hog" tires are quite good for traction except on ice..... Oh,as for "Track Drives",more trouble/expense than they're worth,in my opinion :)
