I have a jd 110 with a kohler eng that starts ok when cold but acts up and runs poorly when it warms up. I want to replace the coil. I plan to buy one from a auto store. The tractor is not here to look at. Should the new coil be one to be used with a resistor or one with a built in resistor. Is there anything else I should know or any other suggestions. I changed points and condenser and gas filter and cleaned out the shroud around the engine for good air flow. THANKS bcPA

It is best to get a coil specifically made for the Kohler. It is a type of coil that DOES NOT need an external resistor, but draws less current than an automotive type.

A genuine Kohler coil at a small engine repair shop will cost you $30 to $35, and an aftermarket Kohler replacement coil will be in the $20 to $30 range.

Or pick one up at Deere... part # AM38411 @ about $32.99

This is one application where using the correct part will save trouble later.
