Gentlemen;

Seems when i start to mow, i can mow for about an hour, then my cub 128 (kohler) seems to start slowly losing power, kinda misses at times, then dies. I let it cool down for about a 1/2 hour, then i can mow again for another hour. I've checked the vent cap on the gas cap, and changed the inline filter quite a few times. It runs great when it runs, just seems to lose it after it gets hot. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Barry

My 147 Cub does exactly the same thing as you described.

I put Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas, for 4 tankfulls and it didnt help at all. Therefore, I suspect the ignition coil also. I havent had time to check out the coil, but I also came to this same conclusion. The Kohler coil that I priced is about $30, from my local Kohler parts dealer.

Possible sticking exhaust valve. Try a little Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas. Could also be the coil as has been suggested. Also, this has nothing directly to do with your problem. but If you have'nt done it lately, you should pull the head off and scrape out the carbon.

You may want to check the Ignition Coil. When they go bad, they get hot, the windings will start to open up then the motor dies. Once the coil cools down, you can start the motor again. The layman's test for this, is to touch the coil with your hand and see if it is extremely when it dies. If you have an VOM, you can measure the resistance with 4 to 8 ohms on the primary windings. If you fall out of range or the temp of the coil is too hot, change out the coil. As a word of advisement, change it out with a Cub or Kohler coil and not some aftermarket fitsall.
