It is a electric front PTO on a Cub Cadet 680 hydro.

Are these hard to change. It hakes a rattling sound as it shuts off. When it stalls motor I can turn PTO switch off and it will not disengage until motor quits and I restart. I starts right back up.

Andy:

Sounds like "REPLACEMENT" time for the PTO. There is one retaining bolt w/big thick washer in the end of the crankshaft that has to be removed. Once removed, thus allows the armature to come off. The Field Coil Assembly is bolted to the crankcase with four (4) bolts. Once they are removed the field coil will come off as long as you unplug the power wire. Once you have the replacement PTO, re-assemble in reverse order. Once installed, you will have to adjust the Air Gap, and that should be about .010". The replacement PTO should have instructions for you to follow in the event you need some additional information.

Well....there is a Front & Rear PTO....There is Electrical and Mechanical....and there a different version between the Electrcial and Mechanical, depending upon age...There for a Model Number would greatly narrow it down...!!!!
