I have a 10hp garden tractor with 254707-0140-01-9111131 engine. It has a electrical start but when I turn the key...nothing happens. I've checked protect-switches, but what should I check next? Any ideas? Thanks.

this engine has a dual circuit alternator if it does have lights, that means that the lights only are on when it is running. more than likely you have either bad battery connections, bad ground or a solenoid that is bad.

Okay, thanks for the replies. Machine has not the lights. I try to check more those switches. Hmm, is that solenoid in the starter?

Okay, now it runs again. It was some kind of connection problem. Suddenly it worked...

Still sounds like a safety switch issue. SOme mowers have an inline fuse also. As other poster suggests, try the lights and see if they work.

Turn the lights on and then tell us what happens.
