My Cub Cadet 1282, 12 hp Kohler engine,
was about due for its oil change, before starting
it grass cutting duties. The plug has been removed many times. I bought the tractor new, and changed the oil often. The the hole is stripped on the engine. Is there any easy way to fix this. Oversized drain plug?
Thanks,
Andy

Another method of repair is to remove the pan, and use a specially alloy hard solder used for repair of aluminum and "pot metals". Welding supply stores that are well stocked such as "Toll" in the midwest, carry this material. This material purchased through such a supplier is easily half of the price they charge on the info-mercial.

You can build up the internal portion of the casting so you can drill it and then tap it to restore threads. Then do as suggested, screw in a nipple, and it might be a good idea to use a medium strength thread locker on those threads only (aids in sealing and prevents accidental loosening).

you could clean what is left of the threads very well then coat the end of a nipple with jb weld and thread it in finger tight. After it hardens cap the end but dont over tigten.

I usually put a nipple in the hole from day one and then use a cap on the end to drain oil. That way you are not having to remove the plug. I would try some of those rubber expanding plugs first. Seems NAPA has them on a card of I think 6.
I dont know if a helicoil would work there. You might take the plug and see if there is an oversize self tapping plug for it also.

Heli-Coil thread repair insert??,also have seen rubber expansion type plugs for use on cars/trucks etc.You might be able to make one from a piece of hose and a stub bolt a bit larger than the I.D. of the hose.
