Gentlemen....

appreciate all the good info here. I'm rebuilding a kohler 12 horse (K301A) for a cub cadet 128 and the crankshaft is bad....I have a K241 10 horse laying around but havn't broke into it to look at the crank ....would these be the same crankshafts?
Can i use a K241 crank on a K301A....Thanks in advance...

Barry

Depending on what machine shop you use, they might be able to grind the crank down and machine your old rod out and have them put a Renault rod bearing insert in the rod. I know it can be done, a friend of mine had it done, and it worked great. You might call around and ask if any of them have the ability to do this.

No k241 is a shorter stroke than a K301 if I remember right. I will check my books and get back to you if I am wrong. Send your K301 crank to a good shop that can weld it up and then regrind it.

Kent and Lucas...

Thanks for the info. I took my old crank to an auto machine shop...They told me it had been ground once before, I asked about welding to build it up, but they told me it couldn't be done.....(small town).....appreciate any info you can share.....Thanks

Barry

the k241-10hp shaft will not work in the k301-12hp... but the k321-14hp and k341-16 hp cranks will fit the k301-12hp. lucas

Call Scott Madson at Madson's Service 920-773-2661, he stocks reground cranks (-.010) for the K Series Cubs. Good prices and fast service. And by the way, a good small engine shop will have a source for plasma spraying a crank to build up the journal. I just find it cheaper getting a reground one from Scott. Kenny
