I have a engine that was rebuilt in 2002 . It was bored sleeved new values guide new values turned crank new rod, piston, rings. At first it ran great but now a lot of oil is coming out of the breather. I have replaced every thing in the breather with new parts and they are installed correct buy the manual. It apears that the oil is coming in to the breather by the small return hole in the back of the value that return the oil in to the block . Can any one help . Thanks

Ben, Try a compression test and a leak down test- Pressurize the cylinder with shop air and see where it blows from. Also try to borrow a borescope to look inside the cylinder. Or just pull the head, gasket is about $7.00. Look for scratches and gouges. If none, ball hone the cylinder to 120 degree crosshatch - that is where most mistakes are. break in no load with non detergent 30 weight 2-4 hours at varying rpm's then try the leak down again. If ok use 40 wt detergent oil. Hope this helps.

Is the drain hole in the back of the block plugged?
The breather plate should tell you which way it is installed. Double check this, it is the most common culprit.

I have checked the hole and its open, and the plate in the breather is installed so that the plate reads top and a small drain hole is at the bottom . I am not sure what else to do. Why would I have so much oil coming into the breather?

Yea it sounds to me the rings got hurt. Did you have it honed with 500 grit stones or something finer? The chrome rings are a -itch to seat if it's not honed right. Also, what oil have you been running? Don't run 10w30 or 10w40 they just won't take it for long.

Ben, You could have a ring problem. It might be that compression is getting by the rings and preasurizing the crank case. Just a thought.
