arnie, 1st check the brass bolt type plug holding the float bowl,,, this has a very small hole in the side that lets gas thur.. clean with gumout, use a fine copper wire to clean out hole..while this is apart make sure gas is coming into carb ok by holding float up then leting it down(gas should run when down)put a little gumout in the float bowl when reinstalling or put some in the incomeing line, also check for a bad screen in tank at the off/on valve

Arnie, What kind of problems are you having with your old carb? I just purchased a troy-bilt and it would not run unless I poured a tiny bit of gas in the spark plug hole, it ran for about 3 seconds then quit. I pulled the carb off and disasembled it, be sure to pull off all the rubber and plastic looking pieces and remember where everything goes, then I put it in my gallon can of professional carb cleaner for about 6 hours. When I pulled it out I rinsed it off with soapy water, blew it out with an air hose then put it back together and it started right up. The only thing I had to do then was adjust the jets. If you do this, make sure you wear chemical resistant gloves and dicard your rinse water in a safe place. Hope this helps, John

Better yet, buy a rebuild kit. They are cheap and it's not rocket science. If it's your first time, just take your time and read the instructions.

somewhere inside there is small port that is stopped up, not letting the gas get through, you need to soak it in some kind of carb cleaner,of course you need to take it apart first, then put a kit in it

Yep, I use B12-Chemtool to squirt out all the little hiding places, saves me from having to soak it, if you use it, please read the label. It's a great product but it has some really serious chemicals in it.
