While mowing yesterday my Craftsman tractor just stopped moving. It was like the drivetran disengaged. Went through the manual and only found info about purging the transmission. I have a Craftsman:
16.0 HP, 42" Mower
Hydrostatic Model # 917.270641

Any ideas on what to check for?
Thanks, Bas

Thanks for all the assistance, it turns out the belt wound up on the wrong side of one of the pulleys. Don't ask me how.

Thanks for everything, Bas

Basil, check that your brake didn't lock up and is not disengaging. This happened to me once and after I hauled it to the repair center, the guy just popped it loose and lube it, been fine ever since. Lyle

First check the drive belt. Next make sure the engine pully is turning with the crankshaft. Then see is the input shaft is being turned with the pully. There is a key both on the engine and input shaft pullies. One of those keys may have sheared. The axle shafts also have keys. If one is sheared it wont move so check that next. After that you are into internal problems with the tranny.

is the clutch spring pulling the petal back up far enough, pull the petal up by putting your foot under it,bring the petal torward yourself.. there is a spring under there , it might be the problem
