My Cub Cadet 1811 has troble engaging the starter when the switch is turned on. This happened once before and the service tech lubricated the nylon/plastic drive gear shaft on the starter. He said it just gets sticky and won't engage the flywheel. He said it wasn't easy to get at.His fix worked for several years, but now it needs to be redone. He's now out of business so I thought I'd do it myself, but can't find a schematic/ picture of the starter mechanism to know where to lube the starter on this 18 hp Kohler. Has anyone out there done this fix or have pictures that might help? The Cub Cadet Homepage on the Web is useless. Thanks BLB

Hi Barry. Yep, he's right, it is hard to get to those starters. You will have to remove some sheet metal from the head area to see the drive. Then you will likely find that the area is filled with dirt and clippings and all kinds of junk. if you think it is too trashed to clean up with compressed air, you'll likely have to pull the engine mounting bolts and slightly raise the engine to take out the starter. (A friend says he can do his without pulling the engine, but he has smaller hands than I do!)

I have a photo of the engine starter area of my 1811 with the sheet metal off that I will post in the CCC/MTD Cub Cadet topic at this address for you to see:

You might want to check out the IH Registry forum, there is a place for the newer CCs there, as well as a number of other topics:
