Hello,
Here in a week I will be attending an auction which has 2 Bolens tractors. A Bolens Husky 1254 and a Bolens 220. I was just wondering which one would be better for mowing and tilling? And, I know that shape and what goes with it determines the price, but roughly, what prices should I be willing to pay? And, does any one have a picture of these 2 models so I can get an idea of them?
Thanks,
Barnz

The model 220 is a 1958 Bolens Ride-a-matic. I was going to restore one to take to tractor shows it would be the 220 for sure. But if I was buying it to use I would get the 1254. It is at least twice the tractor for hard work. Maybe you need one for work and one for play. (just a thought)

I do not know of a 220 Bolens. The 1254 was made to handle a great number of attachments with ease, including a tiller. If the 220 is actually a 1220, it is almost identical to the 1254, both having VERY heavy duty 6 speed manual transmissions. 1220 has a Tecumseh engine, 1254 has a Wisconsin engine. Personal preference? Wisconsin. In good shape, up to $1000. And I am a miser. See 1220 pics at Link See 1254 pics at Link

When you log in, if you look to the left, you will see a section of the site called Garden Tractor Photo Gallery. My "Art from NY" pic of a 1256 is in there. The 1254 should look just like it. Also, should be other pics. of Bolens, in the several hundred submitted by other visitors.

Mine is a great running, solid machine!

Thanks Art. But, will it be able to run a tiller? What about the 220?
Thanks,
Barnz

Hi Barnz, the 1254 runs a tiller with a drive shaft. Not sure how the 220 is set up.

The tiller in the pic, is currently on Ebay and would work on the 1254.

BTW. The 1958 Bolens Ride-a-matic model 220, would make a nice collector tractor, but for a real work horse, I personally would go for the 1254, with the bigger newer engine.
