When restoring an old or antique tractor, do you try to match the paint as close as you can? Or paint it a different color, to make it unique? I have done both in the past, I was just wondering what everyone else thought about it.

I like to get as close to the original as possible, but it's not a law. I'm painting a lawnmower silver now, instead of grey, because the owner of the mower, and the color silver have a special memory with me...

I don't restore tractors, I fix them. My belief is that I would like to do as a farmer did in the 40s or 50s, and I think that would be to repair the tractor, finish the chore, and then in the dead of winter, if there was a warm place to work, paint it. I don't think he worryed about the color, his main concern was to increase the life of the tractor. So it probably got whatever color that he bought at last weeks auction. When I was a kid we had a purple manure spreader, for 5 years running. 20 gallons of paint goes a long way.
