Today I pickuped a small 2 Hp. old Briggs engine from the junkyard.... I looked to be in good shape.... But when I turned it over it came to a hard stop....So I took it apart...Looks like it it was never used....
The problem was the exhaust valve was stuck...nothing new....But this had no rust or carbon...Everything was shiney...What was making it stick ???? I took the keeper off...It took a slidehammer to remove the valve...It was real tight...Still no rust or carbon...I looked at the hole thinking that I would have to ream it out.... I picked up the valve and placed it on the hole and it fell in....?????Well I'm lost....I hammer it out and it falls back in....Help me out....Whats happing ???? Anyone ever have this happen???? The engine now run fine....

A small piece of (pick one):

Sand
Rock
Casting slag

was jammed between the stem and guide. When you pounded out the valve, it fell out.

I need to find some like that!

As hard as that valve came out.....you would think it would let scratches on the stem and leave a chunk of Sand,Rock,Casting slag big enough for me to see behind ????? Oh well.... One more old engine to put up on the shelf....
