I recieved a phone call from a friend down in the orchard country of Florida saying that he has found a Fordson Major Diesel stand-up orchard tractor with fill dress tin similar in design to the tin of an 0-4 or 0-6 International. He has no computer and he called me to know if it was a rare tractor or not. I don't know and now I am curious. I has been established that it is not a regular Major, but is a variation of some sort. Help would be appreciated...AC

The type of major you are referring to is a KFD conversion fordson major, basically used the same chassis, engine and the like but smaller back wheels, different front wheels, smaller width front axle and the whole thing was generally lower. Sounds from your description that some tinwork has been replaced, this is posible, but a KFD should have some rather large similarities with usual major, being the same with different wheels and axle. They are Quite rare, more valuable than the usual major and were released in 1952 just afetr the usual major was released. A back issue of Tractor and Machinery has a big article on them, i think it was a 2001 edition. Hope this is of some help

Been looking for a KFD Major for years, found one now a model 68 in very good original and complete condition - yes it was much more than a standard build DDN.
A few were sold originally in Wales and the western Midlands, Shropshire & Herefordshire.
Would like to make contact with anyone who has one to compare notes and try to build up a profile and a register of these rare tractors, plus we can help each other with restoration hints etc. Please contact me by email flatfender@arepo.com. David Bate July 2005
