thanks for the feedback . . . please excuse my lack of knowlege on this, but would this tractor have all metric threads and such?? this tractor is being sold by its original owner, has 5,700 hours on it, and it's clean and runs great. it also has an allied front loader and he wants $4,500. what's your opinion of its practical (not collectors) value.

They were made in britain,so no metric treads anywere.A Dexta is very similar to a MF35,it even has a Perkins engine,144cid.I use my 61 at haying time to pull the rake,i do 200 acres every cut,it's a great tractor for that kind of work, and runs on very little fuel. So,yes, they definetly still have a lot of value as working goes. You can buy a brand-new 231Massey and get essentially the same tractor, only with powersteering. Here in Ont a decent Dexta sells for around cdn$4000 w/o a loader,if one can find one.

An example - I have been looking at a 57 or 58 Dexta that has a couple of known problems - one of them being the gear shift jumping out and locking up. Out of curiosity I called the local FNH parts counter and asked them about a new gear shift lever for it. $41 dollars - it is available. Other stuff may not be but it doesn't hurt to ask.

If you will take the shift lever out, build up the bottom ball with a welder and grind it back down smooth so it fits the shift rails it will cure the jumping out of and hanging in gear probs.

Hey Tom, I have a 1960 model Fordson Dexta and I have just recently overhauled the motor and had no problem getting parts. You can just about get anything you need except odds and ends like a proofmeter or gauges and some bushings. You can get these sometimes from people on the internet. I haven't been lucky enough to find a proofmeter yet, but I'm still looking. They are a good little tractor and a willing worker.

Take care

For your proofmeter, try contacting:

Link

They are in England, and I doubt it will be cheap, but I am willing to bet that they might be able to come up with one!

I am still looking for valve retainers and rotocaps for my '63 Super Major!! If anyone has any sources for these parts, please let me know!

Good Luck Mark Myers
