Does anyone out there have any experience working on P6 Perkins diesel engines? Trying to repair a oil leak from the front main cap. I guess that this engine has a external front crankshaft main cap and the gasket for this cap is leaking oil.
My father has been trying to remove the cap and get to the gasket but it will not move and he does not want to damage anything. Is there a trick to this repair?? We have gotten a repair book for the P6 but it does not cover this type of repair. These engine are not real common here in the states so I figure that someone across the water might know what to do.

Hope this helps, over the years I have done three of these each one different depending on what the engine was made for.

First clean up the engine front, take of pully from crank then look very carefully for some covered stud holes the paint useally hides them if they are there remove the plug and insert a stud and the housing pushes off.

If that fails use a strap or chain wrench and apply pressure both clockwise and anti clock wise DON'T JAR just steady force this may take time but persevere. There is at least one dowel fitted and it is a tight fit!!

Lastly on some commercial versions there may be a groove if so use a drift knocked in from the side there usally is another groove opposite so work each groove in turn to fetch it off evenly

hope this helps and good luck with your project
