Another Fordson Tale

While working as a diesel mechanic some 15 yrs ago, I started work in a workshop in the Northern Territory (Australia) in a town we had recently moved to. Out in the back yard was a sad looking old diesel Major that had obviously not worked for a long time.
When I enquired what was wrong with it they just said that the clutch had gone. They had split the tractor, pulled the clutch out and pushed the two halves together and forgot about it. I remebered that some of the old clutches were interchangeable with other old Ford stuff and made a couple of phone calls with the result in finding a clutch and pressure plate in the southern states.
When the parts arrived, I split the tractor, saw that the flywheel was all marked and the bolt holes ruined as the clutch had literally fallen off! I re-marked and drilled and tapped new bolt holes, mounted the new clutch and pushed the unit back together. Connected everything up, threw a battery in and pushed the starter. In about 1.5 revolutions it fired up and ran like a beauty. (Don't they always?)
It lived to work on another day.
