I am having a Fordson Super Major rebuilt. The shaft coming off the timing gear is damaged. The key way is worn out on one side and the D shaped end is worn as well.Could a Machinest repair it by fillingit with weld and reslotting it as well as the end or should I look for another? This is a 1961 major(Simms injector),what years would the shaft be exchangable? I can't find any #s on the shaft and the used parts house says that it has a #. Is it under the bearing? The block is in being checkedfor cracks because the it was passing antifreeze into the oil and the o rings& head gasket were OK looking. If the block is cracked what year Blocks are exchangable? Does anyone have any of these? Thanks

I will find out the part number for you tonight. Do not use the shaft of an engine with a minimec pump (be carfull, the Minimec also has "Simms" cast on it) as they are not the same. A safe way to identify the block you want is to look at the truck engine mount pad that is on the side of the fly wheel housing. There is a pad, on the early engines it is 2 inch square with four tapped holes, on the later engine it is 4inch by 2 inch with 6 tapped holes. This is a post 1957 block. Also be aware that in late 1961 the sleeves changed from haveing an O ring at the bottom only to one that had one top and bottom. The later one is best. The block you want is 61 through to 64.
