Concerning Julian's post below, a couple of questions. Do you know if the letter S on the engine serial numbers on the Dagenham 220 cid engine stand for "skid unit"? I have noted in most County Super Fours and Super Sixes based on the FSM skid unit, the serial number begins with the letter S.

Also, do you have at hand the Dealer Service letters dealing with the introduction of the Mark II and Mark III engines? Also, how does one incorporate the S serial numbers with the standard engine serial numbers noted in the Service Manual on the transition from Mark I series to Mark II series and so on?

Thanks, don

Don ole boy,
I'll pull out what I have over the next few days and let you know. The "S" is certainly the designation of a skid unit but it could have gone anywhere. We had them on "Entercon" crop driers. A damn great engine and a fan. Coupled up to a tunnel through grain or hay they could really dry things out. Also on irrigation plants. Those engines got everywhere. That was the problem when the 2-5000 range was introduced. No universality.

PS Have just bought a scanner. be prepared for pictures of the County's when I work out the instructions.

Sorry, In the above post I intended to say County Four Drive and not County Super Six. I realize the County Super Six based on the FSM skid unit will have the Dagenham built 330cid engine. I believe these have a longer stroke and are indeed a fine, smooth engine. It is amazing the difference in sound and smoothness between the 220 and th 330 cid engines
