I've ordered a shop manual from New Holland, when it arrives here's the first problem I'll be working on. After an hour or so of use the SOS would get really warm, actually uncomfortable to my feet and legs. After a suggestion that my clutches might be slipping, with the assistance of a borrowed manual I adjusted the 3 bands. Viola! I used the tractor for about 7 hrs without the SOS getting so hot. Problem solved thinks I!! But the next time I start the tractor it wont move when I let off the inching pedal, just a small lurch (the same in every gear, forward or reverse) So I think that maybe I wasn't as careful as I could be when making the adjustments, I'll do it again. Taking great care to proceed as instructed in the manual I adjust again, Viola!! Success again. I use the tractor for about 3 hrs and everything is working great..... .....I went out yesterday to finish my mowing and guess what? That's right, it will not move again, only a small lurch when the inching pedal is released!!! Any ideas? I have a lot of work to do and unfortunately not a lot of time (or $$$$) to get it done. Thanks for reading.

Jon,

I have the same problem with mine. I have an 881 and ident symptoms. I found it was the control pistions on the top of the tranny. The guy at the local NH shop said I should get the valves honed. I just plain cleaned them and it worked fine for about 2 weeks and then the problem started again. I took it apart and found that because when the tractor sits it get a very small amount of condensation on these since it is above the oil level. I find that I just let the tractor idle for about 15 minutes and it works fine for the past 6 months or so. Hope this helps....
