I had the same problem. It was a rust hole through the cylinder just below the inlet.

Roy S. Once again good advice from Bern. Proper installation of the seal kit is a must. Insure you have the correct kit. I think there are kits for 1/2 and 5/8 rams. If all else fails suspect a bent ram, check with a good straight edge. The cylinders can be completly overhauled but unless you are a machinist or have a friend that is, you will be further ahead to replace the faulty unit. Sorry for the lack of good news. Best of luck Roy B

Roy, where exactly is it leaking, past the rod on the cylinder itself or is your leak at the control valve area where the PS lines attach? If it is past the rod, 9 times out of 10 the standard seal kit PROPERLY INSTALLED will cure it, unless the gland is very worn allowing excessive rod side movement (very rare and not repairable unless you're good with a lathe). If it is leaking at the control valve area, there is an o-ring on either end of the control spool, and there is also a very small o-ring on a pin in the housing which retains a check valve, which most people are not aware of. This is a definite potential leak point. Also, don't forget the 2 small o-rings between the cylinder and control valve. All this assumes you have factory power steering.

Hello, I have the same problem with my 4000. If you get any responses, please e-mail me with the tips. I have overhauled and resealed to no avail and I cant afford a new linkage because I just spent $1100.00 to replace the clutch. Also looking for upper and lower front grills. My machine is a 69 1/2. Thanks Ken
