Does anyone have experience mowing & baling with a 600? What type mower & baler is most economical (6 acres of bermuda)? Is this a silly idea?

I've ran a New Holland Super 66 baler with PTO on our 8n tractor. Handled it rather well. This is of course was my last resort as I have another tractor that is better suited for this. I have a ford 501 3pt sickle mower I use to mow with and then rake with an old David Bradley four wheel rake. The neighbors take care of the main acreage since I sold the livestock but I still bale a couple of acres that is too stony to plow. I don't need the hay but I'd rather do it than let it go and grow into a mess.

I cut and bale about 2 acres (mostly for a hobby) with a Ford 800. I suppose you could do it with a 600 but the extra hp is nice. I have an 850 and would have been better off with an 860 with live pto. If you have a 660 you may be better off than I am. I use a JD#9 sickle mower, MHF36 ground drive rake and a MF124 baler. All my stuff was either cheap or free and it's really old, but it still works. Because of my confined space I would be happier with a 3pt pto rake that I could pick up and put down where I want it...something like a Ford 503, NH57, etc.

Jim did you see this; Its a live add on pto. They sold and shipped it quick I had asked for the part number but it was already shipped. I mow with a bushhog brand hog and then rake with a ground drive. The hog doesnt chew it up too small and I rake into big rows, then I drag it with my backblade to the barn. I can put a mountian of hay in to my lean to with no problem. Havent tried to bail yet. My tractors a 641.

Patrick, I can't remember if I had responded to your survey or not, but I have a Jubilee with a working live PTO (not as nice looking as yours though). The interesting thing is that both of my levers look quite different than yours - it would be quite handy if my PTO clutch level was up as high as yours !

I don't remember either. But, the point I was making by doing the survey is that this thing is really rare!

I have seen only one other at the show in Gray, TN, last April. It belonged to Roger Elwood. It was identical to mine.

The mechanic who got mine running had seen a mechanical version on an 8N once.

Bob, You, I and a handful of others have a unique gizmo that helps the value of our NAAs. That's great!

Stay in touch!

Is that an electric clutch & you just leave the pto running all the time? Hard to see what the parts are.

If so, 12 volt clutches are used to run combine drives all the time - could maybe adapt something....
