I am converting my 53 Jubilee from 6v to 12v and need a 12 volt wiring diagram with one wire to the alernator. Maybe John from LA has that.
Thanks.

James,
Instead of the diode may I suggest another way. This other way is to use a light bulb in the exciter circuit. I did mine that way and I really like the visual effect of the light coming on when I turn the key on, then when the engine starts and the alternator excites and starts to charge the light goes out.
I used the same light socket that was original equipment on my 1964 Ford 4000. A 14.1 Volt bulb behind a red lens looks way cool.
Have a Great day!
Keith

James, I did a one wire hook up on my 601 series but recently changed it over using the 1N5408 diode. Needing 2,000 rpms to excite the alternator seemed a bit high and for the cost of a diode, $2.56 it now excites almost immediately.

Here's the diagram that came with my conversion.

Jack

Thanks, all hooked up and working but want to get the 1N5408 diode. Have called around and can't find that one here. Where did you get that particular diode? Thanks, James

A 600 and a NAA use the same parts in a conversion so this should work for you. It uses a real 12v coil so if you do not have one do not forget to add a resistor. I also have a 3 wire diagram in case you want that.

1 Wire is not the way to go. Yes they work but who need a diagram to hook up one wire its easy just run the wire to the battery and be done with it. But a 1 wire does not work well and is never dependable. You need to do it right and do a 3 wire and it will work fine and probably work for longer then you will. Problem with the 1 wire is you have to rev. the engine to max or better to get it to kick in and even then it can/will drain the battery over time
