Hes got a 851, 1964 Ford standard tractor. The rear tires he has on it is 16.5-28 He says he put that tire on his rim and it nearly fell into the wheel, I cant imagine a tire going on that easy. What size tires does that tractor take

Ditto what the others say.. my 850 has the 13.6-28's.

measure his rime.. you can usually jump one size before you have to change the rim..

The tractor came out with size 12-28 tires, which was changed to 13.6-28 on later production tires

They quit building the 861 about 1962 so something in his numbers isn't right.
A typical 801 would have 12.4 28 or probably 13.6 28
If he has an early 1960s industrial such as an 1801 it might have had rears as wide as 16.5
Don't know what they came with from the factory.
