Was boring some fence holes with auger and hyd line came loose. Fixed it, put hyd fluid in and lift will not operate. Front bucket goes up and down, pto works good but nothing when trys to lift hitch. I am guessing if bucket works good, hyd pump is ok. Lever feels a little freer. Don"t know if maybe something sheared off.
Can"t figure out what"s wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

it looks like the pump is at the back of the engine. There are 2 tubes coming out of it. the smaller one pulled out of the fitting. Looks like some sort of compression fitting (???) I loosened it, put tube in and retightened it for a quick fix.
I did not bleed anything. There is a valve with a plug in it. i thought it was to hook up a hose to another attachment or something. it probably is there to bleed the system. Hope that will do it.

Dunno why the compression fitting at the pump came loose. Might weep if you didn't put a new seal there. Might not.
Pump is as you say left rear of engine.
Bleed screw is a 3/8" pipe plug - usually socket head - on the side of the pump. Run the engine at low idle and unscrew just enough to make it dribble oil.
When the bubbles are gone and you get a steady flow of oil retighten.
Should be as easy as that.

I did something similar on a 3000. Same tractor as far as hydraulics goes.
Broke a hose and puked out a gallon of oil before I realized.
Fixed the hose. No lift.
Added oil. Still no lift.
Had to learn how to bleed the pump. Easy.
Fixed the problem.

What hose broke?

and do you have a front pump running the loader?

The 3400 front end loader probably runs off a pump in the front of the engine. The 3 point probably uses a pump at the back of the engine. (Mine doesn't have 3 point.) Look in the archives to see what others have done. You probably have a vacuum, or an airlock, in the pump.
