There is an auction 1/1/02 that has a 5000/select o speed. I have yet to hear or see anything positive about these transmissions. I also know these tractors sell cheap. My question is how hard is it to change transmissions and put in the eight speed? Is it possible? Thank you

I am looking for a Ford Tractor Model 501. Does anyone out there have one or knows where there might be one. If so please let me know.

lee, You're right - the tractor should not bring much. the transmission could be ok, but the switch to an eight speed would be quite expensive, probably not worth your effort. For the price of the tractor and what you would pay for the switch you can buy one ready to roll. You should be able to buy a good one from $6500 to $7500. At an auction the SOS might bring $3500, could cost another 3500 to switch transmissions. Good luck, Ron.

If that transmission has been seviced properly , you will find it to be very dependable. Parts are getting hard to find for it but that could be overlooked if it is purchased cheaply enough.
