Good morning,

With the engine shut off, the bands (B2 & B3) should be applied. Sounds like a band adjustment is in order. You do not need gauges for a band adjustment, but you do need a good torque wrench, preferably and inch pound one.

Thanks Larry,

I'll study up on the adjustment and let you know how it goes. Probably won't rush out and do it since it doesn't seem to bother most of the operation, but I'll post when I make the adjustments.

Chris

How long does it roll? If it's just a cold roll, it's somewhat normal. If it does that when it's good and warmed up, it's got B2 & B3 engagement problems. Could be as simple as a proper band adjustment. Could be more serious.

Good Morning Larry,

Spring will be nice this year, when it finally arrives, can't be far away. When I was playing with my tractor last weekend, adjusting the gear selector, I found that it would roll when the engine was off. Not the normal foot or less before stopping, but a free roll. When I put my shift cable back on I was a little off adjustment and it wasn't fully engaging Park. After adjustment, when placed in Park, it catches quickly and will not roll. All other gears seem to work well. The tractor was cold, but I had observed it earlier this winter as well when the tractor was warm.

Should I be thinking about band adjustment? are guages a must to accomplish this?

TIA

Chris

I guess the leak is not my big concern now. I found a transmission for 400.00$ Guy says it works in all gears but rolls in park.whats your thoughts on this thanks Len

Dang  Not sure where my head was on this oil leak. Just dawned on me that I was thinking the steering column was over the bell. It's not. It's bolted to the top of the transmission. The possibilities for the oil leak, therefore, are loose capscrews that bolt the streeing to the transmission, blown gasket, or a crack or flaw in the mating surfaces. Sorry for not thinking this one out!

It depends on what you want out of the tractor. If it's a show tractor, I'd say yes. If it's not, I'd probably find a good DDC transmission to replace it with. SOS also has a front seal on the input shaft.

Your ORC is seized. The ORC unit itself will need to be repaired or replaced.

Is the leak coming from under the steering column between it and the bell housing or from the steering column itself?
If the former you have a bad trans front seal leak or rear main leak. It should also be dripping from the cotter pin weep hole on the bottom of the bell if either of these is true.

If the latter, you likely have water in your steering gear causing an over full condition and a leak out the vent.
