I have a 1710 4 wheel drive with a backhoe and loader. There are six bolts on each side that tie the front end to the engine block. I was able to drill out the broken bolt, but cannot get it out with an easy out. I have been told that touching the broken bolt with a welding rod will loosen it, has anyone tried this? Also is there a permanent fix to broken bolt problem? This seems to be commom on 1710"s with front end loaders.
Thanks,

You can try heating the bolt with a torch and get it red. Let it cool and then try the easy out. Otherwise, weld a nut to the broken bolt.... or tap the bolt and thread it with the largest left hand thread possible, and then turn it out with the hardest bolt you can buy. Couple thoughts anyway.
I've also drilled them right to the threads and then break the remaining thread out with a chisel, but that' not so pretty.

Beyond that, there isn't really much of a fix unless you want to get into heavy full frames... and then you might as well buy another tractor. Those engine blocks are somewhat known to break with loaders and hoes. I'd keep that in mind when I was using the rig.

Thanks Rod for your advice. I like the torch idea better than trying a arc welding rod.
I agree the 1710 is not designed to handle the stress of a loader and backhoe. I have been considering mounting both on a larger tractor that I own and using the 1710 for what I bought it for, mowing along my fences.
