I recently found out that the '81 6600 my family has had for about 10 years is a Blue Power Special. What is different on a Blue Power Special than on a regular 6600? I was also told they were quite rare, so does anybody know the rough or exact production numbers for this tractor? I was going to look in the service manuals, but haven't had a chance yet.

Any info would be really appreciated.

Lyndon

Basically a standard 6600 with a 10 series engine in it. That's the best way of looking at a BPS. That was when the MFWD axles also became available. Everything else is the same. If I recall correctly, they came out in late 1980, less than a year ahead of the 10 series.

The 6600 blue power special had a longer stroke engine the same as the 6610 , i used to drive one in the U.K , they were called the 6600 power plus in the U.K , excellent tractor , fair bit more power than the standard 6600.

The Blue Power Special wasn't really anything all that special. As far as I know it was just a sticker they stuck on 1981 4 cylinder tractors. They got impatient and introduced the new "10" series engines a year ahead of time, and the 5600 went from 60 to 62 HP from it's 256; the 6600 went from a 256 to a 268 with an increase of 2 HP, and the 76/7700 jumped from a 256 turbo to a 268 turbo and another jump of 2 HP. They all had that little extra power, so they became the Blue Power Specials. Wouldn't be all that rare either. Ford was building ~50,000 units a year in the US at that time, and probably the vast majority were 4 cylinders.... Blue Power Special also applied to the UK and EU plants where the numbers were much larger.

?? I know that they made 5600 with the blue power special which had the 6600 engines , but a 6600 would have to have a turbo to be up to the next class with the 7600 so i'm wondering what a 6600 blue power special really is... i do have a 5600 blue power special... thanks.. bill

Nope, no turbo. From what one of the guys I work with tells me, it has the same engine as the regular 6600. Seems that way, because our 6600 BPS puts out the same as any other 6600. Our BPS has highway yellow paint with a Blue Power Special sticker on each side of the grill, a heavier front axle, a higher capacity front-mounted hydraulic pump, and lots of wheel weights. Oh, and no dual power, just a straight 8 speed. I was wondering what other changes the BPS had as opposed to the regular 6600, and what the production numbers were on it.

Thanks anyhow.
