My friends has a 1985 ford f150 with a straight six 300 cubic inch engine, that sparks only once when you turn it over! In order to get another spark you have to turn key off and turn over again! Please any help! Thank You for time and help!

If I remember correctly 1985 still has Duraspark ignition on it.

My 1980 did, and had the same exact problem you explain. But also mine would not start when it was extremely hot outside. 90+.

Went to a MSD ignition box. Problem disappeared.

Good luck,
Rick

If it has electronic ignition, then 9 times out of 10, it's the module. We often carried a spare module behind the seat for our 86 F350 with a 351 windsor. They just up and die with no warning or reason. HTH.

While I am not up to date on the 1985 wiring with the module on the fender well I can tell you that you are not getting power to the coil.

Ford uses a system that bypasses the ignition system while cranking for full power to the coil.
In the bypass mode the coil is getting power from the starter relay and this is working giving you spark while cranking.
Once you let the key go to run it makes the power come from the ignition system.
It can be a bad key switch (most likely) bad wire to coil; bad ignition resistor (if you have one in your system).

Common problem on Fords (given the symptoms)the ignition switch is bad.

If its electronic ignition I would say the module is probably bad. You can take them out of the dist. and have them checked at most good parts stores
