I recently aquired a Ford 4500 series tractor
with a 727 bucket loader accessory installed,
and I found the serial number on the engine's
right hand side (next to the starter) and decoded it to have been made in 1968. I am wondering how I can tell more about the transmission on this tractor? It has a plated over outlet where I am supposing that the PTO
normally would protrude, and I do not have a lever to engage a PTO, is it still possible to ADD a PTO service?

Thanks In Advance!
Anders, first time tractor owner :)

Hi Anders,

The 4500 is the industrial version of the 4000 series and many of them were equipped with a shuttle shift transmission, which will not accommodate a PTO. Many of the 4500's did not come equipped with a 3 point hitch either. However, some 4500's came from the factory with one or the other, or with both PTO & 3 point hitch.

Tell us which transmission your 4500 has, and someone will be able to tell you if it can accommodate a PTO.
