My 1996 New/Holland 3930 has developed a fluid leak where both brake rods go into the rear axel. To replace these seal type cups dealer states takes 45 minutes & simple job. My question is? I notice there is a large type washer on the middle of the brake rods. How do I get passed the steel washers or do they screw into each other? Cup type seals will not pass thru washers. Appreciate any help

Same problem on my '96 NH 3930 (see post 5-24 ref brake seal page 2). Washer came off last night .. hope to do boot tonight ... when I asked my NH dealer a time frame, he asked what I was doing for the weekend ... no trust ??

done that to my 3930-both sides of axle and one side twice. My dealer said that the seals were bad from factory, but NH would not admitt to it. Jack up one side or you will ose about 5 gallons of fluid and make a huge mess, use screwdriver to remove old and a piece of wood or rubber mallet to seat new one. Other than this great tractor. The steel washers are as stated-good luck

The washer you are refering to just slide over the rod and are held in place by a small washer with internal teeth that grips the shaft. Just pop the washer off with a screwdriver and then the big washer will slide off. Also once you install the new boot make sure you push the part of the boot that is around the rod all the way up the rod until it is in the groove on the rod. Hope this helps,Dana

The washer is retained by a little convex star washer type thing. it will pry off the brake rod if done carefully and be re-useable. Then remove the washer. The rod boot needs to be seated in a groove on the brake rod. Don't tear the boot when seating it on the rod.
