Any new technology on a better shut off valve? Mine is about 3 years old and has started to leak?

You can take that rivet out of the bottom, take the valve stem out, replace the o-ring, and put the rivet back applying JB weld to hold the rivet in place. Or buy a new assembly and hope that one doesn't work.

Super reply Tom. Next time I will do this and save the $45.

Adding to your post:..... ., or, just remember to only open the petcock 1/2 to 1 turn and you don't have to fool with the rivet....right?

You can install a ball valve in line. I have had this set up for about 3 years and I never have problems with it. But it will take some rerouting of the fuel line. The way I routed mine isn't the grates way and I plan on changing it eventually but the ball valve will stay.

Don't understand your solution, Rod M1.

My fuel shutoff valve is attached to the bottom of the tank and the first thing in the fuel delivery system. If it is leaking (now I'm understanding that the leak is external, not internal)you can't get anything between it and the tank. However, if it is allowing gas to flood the carburetor due to an internal leak, then I agree with you.

My problem was external leaking.

You would have to remove the valve and tap the hole that is in the tank. All the after market tanks are that way. But if you have to do that you are probable better of buying a new tank and using a N series sediment bowl and taping into the right side fitting on the new tank. You will quickly save money from not having to buy $50 valves every 6 months just my 2 cents. I will try to post some pictures of what I did But the pluming isn't very good for flammable products. But it should give you a general idea of what I mean.

You will have to figure out the pluming but this is what I did some of the fitting aren't rated for flammables sow you will have to use something to plum the system.

I pondered the same question when I found out that the replacement was $45 at an after market house no less. After fighting my "Scottish ancestry" for some time and analyzing all the things associated with it that had to be delt with, I couldn't wiggle out of the deal and had to spring for the O.E.type.

Good luck.
