I was using a 3930 the other day to unload a welder from a truck and I wasn't thinking to clearly (hard day before). I was cutting the diesel on and off while positioning and connecting chains, etc. Two times when I started it, it made a loud snap-bang(sounding like bad things happening inside the engine)and began blowing white and blue smoke for the first time. Scared the he!! out of me. Then I let it warm up and drove it to it's parking space and shut it down. Sometime later I started it again and all was fine , no bangs and normal smoke. What happened here?

Thank You,

Scott#2

Where did the noise come from? Top, bottom, front rear? Have you checked the oil pressure yet? It's a starting point. Could be a main....and dropped the cap. No more banging, but no pressure either. I speak from personal experience there. You could also crack the injector lines one at a time to see if each cylinder is firing. Hope for the best.

Rod,

I dont think anything broke, it's been running fine. It sure did scare the crap out of me though. It sounded like a bad case oe detonation. I guess you can't start and stop these diesels like you can the newer ones.

Thanks,
