1953 Golden Jubilee verified by serial number on engine block has a interesting item on left side down by PTO lever that looks like a thimble at first glance. applied vice grip and it did turn about 90 degree forward and then same to rear but function of tractor remained same, what is it ?

keep on guys it sounds like you might be onto something..the subject of discussion is on the left side of the tractor within two inches of the lever for the PTO at about 11:00 my serial number is 15683 so it indicates it is an earlier model.

I have to be out of town eights days but I will get photo asap if no one comes with firm answer.

I have a perfectly working hand clutch on my Jubilee. This little knob on a (live pto option) like mine is not a knurled knob. It is a flat (wing nut looking) knob you turn 90 degrees to allow this option to work or not. It controls or dirverts the oil into the valve that operates the clutch pack. There are small 1/4" hyd lines running to it. These lines go to a small pump mounted on the right side of the engine. The only job this small pump does is provide pressure to this option. When the clutch pack is not used, a spring engages a locking collar that is direct drive. All this clutch pack goes into the space where the connecting link goes between the trans and the rearend. It is a fairly complex option. Seif.

Might be the remainder of the rare "hand-clutch" lever found on some Jubilee's....

Could you describe this "rare hand clutch"
Sounds like it could be the imput shaft for the Howard transmission.

Don..some Jubilee's had a hand clutch that enabled the operator to have "live" PTO...The hand clutch would allow the PTO to remain operating at full speed while the tractor was stopped and in Neutral...I imagine that would be good for baling...

As for the dimensions of the thing...I couldn't tell ya...I've just read of 'em..never seen 'em in person..I saw one in a pic and it was just a long lever like object..and from what I've read they were kinda fragile and lots of 'em ended up broken...

Now I'm wondering if it was on the left or right side...hmmm...

BTW..what you said about the Howard input shaft seems logical...

I saw a Jubilee with Live PTO once and it had two hydraulic lines running to the plate with the PTo Lever and it also had a large long handle for engaging the "LIVE PTO" so I it may be that we are both right. Wish the original poster would post a pic of what he has.
Thanks Don
