Parked it in the garage to work on power steering for a few weeks, now can only get it in gear when tractor is off. It's been suggested the clutch is frozen . . . anyone got any ideas on how to "break it free"???

WOO-HOO!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know, after trying everything y'all suggested, the clutch is now free. Much cheaper and less time invested than splittin' the thang. . . . THANKS SO MUCH!!!

You need to put a big load on the tractor-drag something like a plow, your mother-in-law, etc-while holding the clutch pedal down. Drive it around and get it good and hot. That should do it.

To keep it from happening put a block of wood between the clutch pedal shaft and the bottom of the running board to hold the clutch disengauged when it is parked.

I have had luck freeing the clutch by driving the tractor while holding the clutch pedal down. Be sure you do it where there is plenty of room.

Heard a lot of ideas over the years. Only one I know works (without the potential to really tear up something)is to split the tractor.

I will try, hate the thoughts of having to split the thang everytime it sits still for any length of time. Thanks!

Do a search on stuck clutches, I think Bern has a solution for getting them unstuck.

Had the same problem but after some use and a lot of clutching strokes it finally broke loose, may of been only luck but it worked for me. Its not the best thing but at low idle you can put it in gear, Low and say four at the same time with no gear grinding. Then use it to free it up. Good luck.
