Just been using the heckk out of my 841 and just about finished the job when I tried start her she just goes "click". The click is coming from the starter relay.....so I replaced the battery which I thought was beginning to get a little low anyway. New battery didn't help..... so I replaced the starter relay. Now I don't even get a click. Is my voltage regulator or starter fried? She deserves a break so I don't have to hurry to fix her. But she's happier when shes runnin.

Thanks RICK/GA

Rick,
I have had the same things happen but it turned out to be a dead-short in the 6-volt starter that was hooked into a 12-volt alternator ignition system. I put mine back to original and havn't had any trouble starting or otherwise but it was just my turn to have to spend some money on that old tractor. Good luck.

Had this type of problem with an 841 a couple of months ago. Just a click nothing. Put a charged up battery in and same story. Then I remembered , many years ago as a kid on the farm, had this problem with an IH model H. It would sometimes stop exactly on TDC when it was shut off and then the starter could not move it off of TDC. Put it in road gear and rock the wheels 'til the fan blade moved. Try the starter again and she'd start up like a charm. Well, to make a short story long, I tried that with the 841 and sure as shootin' after I rocked it in road gear, it started on the first try with the starter. You might try it, it won't hurt. Good luck.

A farmall a and 801 would do the same on occasion. lock up on tdc 1 and starter would not turn the motor over.

Had same problem. Like John IA said it turned out to be a bad neg grounding cable. old cable was really corroded. 5 buck fix. we narrowed the problem down because when trying to jump the tractor off it would only jump when the neg jumper cable was grounded on a bolt on the tractor and not on the neg post. hope it helps.

Rick, You don't say weather it's 6 volt or 12V conversion. Run a jump wire from the ground side be it { positive or negitive } to one of the mounting bolts on the seinoid. As you had a click up til you replaced the battery and seliniod. Makes me think you have a bad ground. John

My 6000 did that yesterday. I immediately suspected the battery was low or a bad solenoid but it turned out the starter solenoid(the one on the starter itself) was sticking. Rapped it with a piece of wood and I was back in business. I'll replace it later as it is sure to reoccur. John

is usually a sign of a poor connection or low battery voltage. i guess we need to know somethings if there is current going out of your keyswitch switch.
