last fall i purchaseD a 631. after using it for a couple months it overheated. the temp guage is not hooked up because sending unit is cut off at the block. i first noticed it was overheating from the smell of hot antifreeze and some smoke/steam coming of the engine. the tractor has always seemed to run fine.the coolant in the radiator was cool. I replaced the thermostat but that did not do the trick. I now have the radiator off and have removed the water pump. a friend who works on tractors says the pump appears to be ok. Also, the nut securing the temp. sending unit to the block is destroyed any suggestions on removing this. can the temp be taken in another place? ANYHELP WITH THESE PROMLEMS IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

John, I restored a 950 last year and had the same problem with the temp sending unit. I drilled mine out with progressivly larger drill bits until I came close to the threads and peeled out the last part with a sharp awl. Can't help with the overheating but good luck. Dan J
