A while ago I advertised on this site for a good Select-o-Speed proofmeter for a 981 I am restoring. Got an E-mail from Dick Kraus in Wisconsin who said he had one from a tractor he made a 961 out of and he would send it to me when he got to where the tractor is stored. Today in the mail came a very nice original proofmeter for my tractor and HE paid the shipping to New York! Sure boosts your faith in mankind when a guy goes out of his way to help a fellow tractor lover without expecting the long buck. Thanks Dick, Dan J

I needed a repair on a Tachometer a few years ago.
I called D&M Restorations in Va. Discussed the repair necessary and sent them the Tach. A few days later the Tach arrived back to me with an invoice at much less than the quoted price. I was amazed that people still do business with strangers based on trust.
Needless to say I sent the money immediately with a sincere thank you.

When someone helps you out , It`s your duty to help someone who needs help, If everyone would do this ,we would all have good neighbors. I had a guy work on my S-O-S , I had read all the horrow stories here about them, you guys had me scared, Talked to Larry ncks on here, He came by and looked at my tractor , said yeah bring it on out, I hauled it 200 miles , He had it a couple of days , got a e-mail from him on what I wanted to spend on the tractor, (I had read where you guys say Thousands ) I said no more than 2, he e-mailed back, How about $100.00 and it`s ready to pick up . Needles to say I left him a nice tip , Thanks again Larry. Tractor runs great.

My brothers and I have been messing with old rusty metal conveyances for years and have always found like-minded users/collectors/restorers to be good folk. There is a common bond that we all share that goes back to trying to make stuff better, not necessarily for profit, but for utility or even because it is too neat to just scrap. It kinda harks back to the self-sufficiency that was the hallmark of our nation in its infancy and still runs deep in the agricultural soul of our country.

There is an almost palpable feeling of mutual trust, understanding, and willingness to help one another on boards such as this that really says alot about the people who post.

I imagine that just about all of us here have a rural background and that is a greater common ground than urbanites will ever understand. After frequenting this board for some time you get a feeling of community and a familiarity with others here that cannot be explained to somebody who hasn't had the benefit of experiencing it.

I reckon that makes us virtual neighbors, which is a bond almost as good as a friend (and can be less annoying than real neighbors since I don't have to hear your dog barking at 3AM).

I look forward to checking this board every day to see what everybody else is running into. Makes me feel better to know that I have company in dealing with iron horses.

Ron in IN helped me when I was in over my head fixing rear seals. Even helped construct a version of his home-built bearing puller and shipped the parts to me.

Jerry D in NC made a photocopy of his Ford Baler manual and spent $18 mailing it OVERNIGHT to help me work on a project baler I picked up for free. That baler is still in process. Winter caused a halt to that project.

I found a tractor for tOTG to use for parts salvage and he rewarded me with a glass jar cleaner and set of front wheel weights.

There are probably others I'm forgetting. If so, thank you, too!

Good people here, one and all.

Jim.UT found me a set of Power Adjust rims for my 960, took the old tires off, boxed them up and shipped them to me. I was having a hard time finding a rim and he got me a pair of them. This forum is a valuble asset to any tractor owner and a great place to meet good people.

Let's not put me too high on a pedestal...after all, I did charge you money for those rims. That tire was a beast to remove, though. Next time I'll make sure I have the right tools!

Yeah, he also sent me a parts proof meter he had taken out and replaced with new. Good needle and glass and probably some internals. Awhile back Jerry D in NC sent me manual copies for a One armed bandit. Recently I forwarded them to Texas to help out with another one arm fan. That's how it's supposed to be.

And I seem to remember someone trying to help me find a dirt pan for the one arm bandit and mailing pictures for review. I have had some great help from this forum and enjoy it tremendously. I have however had several people get help and information that I work hours on to get into a form that can be emailed, never respond or even say thank you. I have however made some great friends here that I may never see in person but still feel a bond to.
