I know of a 1972 2000 Ford for sale with only 672 hours. Was this a good model for Ford? My needs are fence building, yard mowing, blading etc. Will this size tractor handle a post hole digger okay? Also, am thinking about getting a front end loader for it. I see several for sale on Fastline.com, so they must be able to handle a loader, but I would rather hear from someone with experience.

I purchased a Ford 2000, gas, 4 speed, trans. PTO, in 1966 and have used it almost daily. When I had my farm sale in 1982, I kept the tractor for use around around our home. In all the years that I have had the tractor, it has had only one engine overhaul which I did myself. It has served me well. It handles a 2/16 plow very well as well as many other implements, especially a 5 foot brush cutter and post hole auger. The only complaint that I have with this tractor is I wish I had been smart enough to get one with live PTO. I don't believe you can go wrong with the one you are planning to purchase.

I owned a Ford 2000 for 25+ years. It will handle a post hole digger very easily. I also recommend you try to find one with live PTO and the 8 speed tranny. I later had a Ford industrial type loader mounted on my 2000. It handled the loader fine, but you really do need rear weights on the tractor to balance it. It's a 30 HP tractor.

It is as good a basic utility tractor as you can get. It will handle an auger all day long with no problem. I do recommend that you make sure that it does have the live PTO and at least the 6 speed transmission. That number of hours is VERY low so the tractor is not worn out if it is correct. Use your own good judgement as to whether the price is good. BTW, I have personally been straddling one for the last 25 years.
