Just picked up a 3000 from a local dealer. His mechanic had it apart to put a rear main seal in and upon reassembly, the clutch seems like it is hooked to nothing.(Mechanic was fired.) It still drives fine in all gears, just the clutch pedal on the left doesn't do anything. Anyone have any clue what he did wrong? It is a sos. And it was cheap enough I wasn't too worried about the tranny.I wonder if I can go in thru the top or if another split is in order. ANy SOS experts out there? PS. Anybody know where the S/N is and how to interpret it? Thanks!

I'VE SEEN A COUPLE OF THESE WHERE THE TRANS COVER HAD LEAKED WATER AND THE INCHING PEDAL VALVE HAD STUCK IN THE "IN" POSSITION. REMOVE COVER AND CHECK PEDAL MOVEMENT WITH VALVE. IF IT STICKS IN, YOU WILL HAVE TO DISASSEMBLE VALUE BLOCK AND CLEAN.

I can't see how anything that may have been done with a front split could have affected the inching pedal. What I would do is remove the trans top cover and check to see that the linkage and valve are all moving up in the valve body.

WARNING: If you have never done this before, get a manual before you proceed. Both shift cables will be disturbed, and the correct adjustment when reassembling is critical!

For SN info, check out Oak's site at www.springfieldbiz.com/oaktree.

Then go to the serial and model number code info.

P.S. If the mechanic was fired for just this, then it's probably just as well that he doesn't work for that guy anymore!

Have investigated further, and the PTO cable seems to be locked up. It is a new cable , so I don't think it is frozen. The PTO shaft is constantly turning. After checking the I and T manual it seems there may be some correlation between the two. Also there were a few times today when it only would go forward, very slowly in reverse. Then after engaging a forward gear it would work in reverse correctly. I have a feeling I need to check all the adjustments on the controls.. Any new ideas? BTW, what fluid goes in this tranny?

IN THIS CASE IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PTO VALUE MAY BE OUT TO FAR.MOST MECHANICS THAT WORK ON THESE THAT DONT KNOW, LEAVE OFF THE KEY ON THE PTO SHAFT LINKAGE, IT WILL USUALLY WORK OK FOR A SHORT TIME UNTIL THE LINKAGE SLIPS OVER, THUS PRODUCING THE PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING.

If the PTO cable was recently replaced, then the cover was likely removed also, and it sounds like whoever did the job didn't get things adjusted up correctly.

Walking you through step by step would be near impossible here. I'd suggest you take some time and sit down with the manual and study it good before attempting to remove the cover. I&T manuals are not as good as the Ford manual for this, but it will suffice. Once the cover is off, you can look at the control valves spools and linkage to make sure everything is working as it should. Make DARN SURE when you have that thing put back together that you can FULLY engage park! If it doesn't go all the way in, it might slip into reverse when you don't want it to. I don't think I need to spell out what might happen if you are standing behind it hooking up a PTO shaft when that happens!

Oil requirement is NH 134D, or it's aftermarket equivalent (most "tractor hydraulic fluid").
