I just bought a '54 Ford NAA tractor and had a few questions. How can I tell what catergory my three point hitch is ? (It is the original). Also what is the largest finish mower I should try to use on the three point hitch? I would like to use a 6 ft. deck but am afraid that the NAA's 31 horsepower won't be enough? I have also looked at 5 ft. decks, but would like to have the extra foot of cut, if it won't be too hard on my tractor. And finally I am looking for books related to maintenance, and a owners manual. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Our tractor a 1954 NAA has had new seals. We have
cleaned out the obstructions. My dad and I along with the local tractor mechanic have checked the pressure from the pump (it runs about 1500Lbs.).
It only lifts with no weight, slowly at that.

Don,

My Golden Jubilee easily handles a 7-foot Farm King finish mower. It does a terrific job. Incidentally, buy a mower with a rear discharge. This eliminates (or at least minimizes) windrows -- very important unless you want to pick up tons of grass clippings. It also permits you to trim from both sides -- a feature you'll quickly love.

Your NAA is a category I.
It should have no problem running a 6ft mower. My neighbor has a 7ft finish mower that I have used without any problems. I does bog my Jubilee down in the tall grass though. I own a 5 ft Mott flail mower and a 5ft Ford brush mower. It handles those easily as well.
Happy Tractoring.

Get the manuals from New Holland. About twice the price, but about 20 times the info and details. I've got both.

My '51 8N handles a 6' finish mower and a 5' rotary cutter just fine. Your NAA should have no problem.

Take care,

I have a 5" bush hog for my naa. It works great but I don't think I would use any larger (personal opinion). I think a lot of people tend to overload these old tractors, and they can only take so much. Get an I & T service manual and an owner's manual. Check the advertisors on this site to find them. There are a lot of sources. Checkout the following web site. It has a lot of info on the NAA. History, specs etc.

Also the archives at this site you are on right now are an excellent source of info on these tractors. Good Luck.

All early Ford tractors (9N, 2N, 8N, NAA, 600, 800, 601, 801, etc.) have a category 1 3-point hitch.

My friend runs a 6 foot Bush Hog finish mower on his Golden Jubilee with no problems.

The folks who run this site sell the manuals you need...
