TO30 Maroon Paint

Hey Everybody,
I have a 1950 TO30 and it looks lika a bunch of the parts were painted a rich red or maroon. I notice a bunch of other tractors in the photo gallery have a similar paint. I thought these things were supposed to be all grey? Any ideas?

Most all were grey from factory, but there may have been a few exceptions. I have one that appears to have been yellow from get-go. It probably was used by a municipality and was painted that way for street use. My theory is that commercial buyers may have requested a color on occasion, perhaps for safety reasons. Not sure why a business/municipality would request a dark color like maroon, unless maybe a school and that was a school color (Tex A&M?), but that seems far fetched.

See a picture of my TO-30 in the gallery (recent post). I can't find any remnants of grey in the areas where it is red, and the red under the hood and on the gas tank looks like an old factory job. If mine was ever grey, they must have sand-blasted it long ago. (Down here in Texas, we don't have so much of a rust problem, so I think people re-paint their tractors less often.) I've only had it a year, and I don't know much of its history. And, I'm no tractor expert.

My TO-30 was also red on the hood, wheels and tank.It was grey on the engine/tranny/axle.

Hey Ben,
I did see your tractor and it looks great. I am getting ready to paint mine and I want to make sure I am not missing some small part of the history of this tractor. The red on this tractor looks origional.

Unless you're going to donate it to a museum, paint it what ever color you like. I've uncovered three paint schemes on my Fergie and I did't like any of them. Haha!

I think that's why Harry just primered them. He wanted us to paint them in the manner that struck our fancy.

The Fergies came from the factory with a maroon(ish) color paint on the interior of the engine and tranny. Could this be what you're refering to?

I agree with painting them any color YOU like. I painted mine black and yellow. Ouch!!!!!
