I have a TO-20 that drips gas from the bottom of the carburetor when the engine is off. Now here is my question: On the sediment bowl/fuel shutoff valve, on the bottom of the gas tank, is a round shutoff dial. What exactly is the position for "OFF". One side of the dial is marked "MAIN 2 TURNS" with counterclockwise arrows on either side of that phrase. The other side of the dial has "FULL OPEN". "RESERVE" is just above those two words. Is the gas supposed to be off when the dial is turned completely clockwise? And in what position exactly is "RESERVE". Just want to make sure I am turning the gas off properly before replacing the packing etc. in the shutoff valve. Thank you!

Mike,
If your fuel shut off valve is screwed into the complete shut off position and fuel is still going into the carburetor, packing the gland nut is not going to cure the problem. The packing only keeps the fuel from leaking past the gland nut when the valve is in the open position. When the valve is screwed completely in and fuel is still is going into the carburetor it is an indication that the needle is not seating tightly in the seat.

Just like you said. Full Open is reserve and lets you get the extra gal of fuel out of the tank. It has two pick up levels in the tank on the valve and the lower one is the reserve pick up tube (full open). Mark H.
