Not So Good Brakes

Hi, I have just purchased a TEA-20 in relatively good condition. I have been having some problems with the seperate wheel brakes, it seems they have prety much lost theair effectiveness. This puzzles me somewhat bacause when I use the brake that works both wheels the right locks up and the left nearly does. My neigbor down the street has a TEA-20 as well and his individual wheel brakes hover well above the foot board while mine have four inches. I am wondering if I need to make an adjustment or if I need new pads. Thanks a lot. James

The individual wheel brakes are easily adjustable. Take a look; there's just one bolt. Loosen it and the brake pedal can rotate around the shaft. When I found this out I was able to get both pedals at just the right height. Jim

The brakes could be out of adjustment, worn or have some oil on them. You should get a manual that shows you how to adjust them. I spent about 45.00 on a set of parts, maint. and repair manuals and it was the best investment I made for my TO-30! Every owner should pick up a set of these befor they tackle repair jobs.
