TO20 missing spring in oil filter cover

I went to change the oil in the TO20 I bought a couple months ago and there was no spring or felt washers I have heard people talk about around the filter cover and screen. I am assuming I can get these at a MF dealer, but where exactly do they go? Does the spring go between the bearing cap and cover or between the cover and filter? What about the washers? Thanks for any help.

Dan, I had the same problem when I got my old tractor several years ago. The spring was partial broken. I made sure that there were no parts on or around the oil pan plate. I went to a parts store and got some compression springs the size of the shaft that the oil filter slides up on with tension enough to firmly hold pressure against the filter and let the plate seat. I had to try several. I am not sure which location the spring goes. I hope there is someone on this board that can provide the answer to your question because I also would like to know. I looked at the manual that I got from TSC and it gives mainly information on the mechanical structure of the Fergusons.
