I just bought an old Fergie tractor that has been converted to 12 volt. The battery in it is hooked up as a normal negative ground. Would this be wrong ? should it be possitive ground? how would I tell it starts and runs okay. no smoke and fire yet>>

The later ones came with 12v negative ground as original; maybe you have one of those. (I have two 1952s and they both started life 12v neg ground.) Jim W

12 volt should / must be negative ground.

6 volt should be positive gound - usually but some have been mixed up or changed.

I just replaced the battery on my TO-20. I just automatically put the ground on the negative. It runs when the battery is first hooked up, but overnight, the battery discharges and is dead in the morning. Did I hook it up wrong?? Should the ground be at the positive. It's the original 6 volt.
