I need to jack up my TO30 to turn my wheels around to mount chains.
What kind of jack do I need?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jerry

Hello; I use a 2 1/2 ton floor jack for working on mine. I have 5 ton Jack Stands also for saftey! I used the floor jack to take the engine out and put it in too. You haft to put 3/4" plywood on it to protect the pan. I used Nylon Ratchet Straps to hold it it place and it worked great. I did not have a Engine Hoist and the floor jack allowed me to line up the clutch shaft perfect and I just roled it together. I put chains on by driving on them. This is the way I do it on the School bus I drive also. Try it you never know when you might haft to put them on away from the shop or take them off. Mark H.

Hi Jerry

We never use jack to mount chains here.

I put chains on a MF65 with 12 X 38 tires every fall for 30 years now. Just spread chains on the floor
alined with your tires. Just run over the chains with the tractor stop at the chain ends. take a rope tie the end of the chain (both sides) to the wheel take care to avoid the tire valve. Then advance the tractor "very" slowly chains will mount over the tire and bring the end you tied near the floor were is the other end of the chain. Now just nap the locks and thats all. It is safe and effortless. Reverse the process to remove chains.

We use same trick to put chains on big timber jacks
and other heavy machinery.

But if you want a jack for other uses there are already some posts there.

Good luck

Joe Ferguson

I have to reset the wheels to get enough clearance. They are almost touching the fenders. The former owner had them set that way so they wouldn't be wider than his finish mower.

as i got older the need for comfort became more apparent. that aside you just can't beat a floor jack. i got a sears 3 ton that included jack stands, can't beat the price !!!

Hi Jerry,
If you really want to do it up right and are pretty handy with a welder, click on the link below. Introducing the Dearborn Tractor Jack that works with your hydraulics. IMHO, one of the best inventions ever made for a tractor.

We have the jack that we got when we bought our 1945 Ford Ferguson 2n. However, we had two rods that hooked the front to the back parts of the jack but they are now missing. What is the value of the jack?

Jerry,
I have a TO30, I use a 6 ton bottle jack to jack it up, and I also have a couple of jack stands that come in handy for a lot of things- like putting the chains on. I use a couple of 4" x 4" blocks of hardwood with the jack too.
