does anyone have a temp. gauge on their to-30? if so where did install sending unit?

My 1952 TO-30 has a temperature gauge. There are TWO gauges left of the steering wheel - ammeter and temperature. To the right of the steering wheel is the oil pressure gauge. The hole for the temp gauge looks professional - either someone was very good at cutting holes or it came that way. There is a LOOOOONG braided metal cable that is mostly rolled up under the battery from the temp gauge, and then goes forward into a threaded hole on the left side of the piece where the top hose from the radiator connects. This is the same piece that holds the throttle spring. It threads right in. Easy from that standpoint.

Did some TO-30s come with three instrumentation holes, or was one cut into mine?

Most of the temperature gauges are available in the capillary tube type and the sensor end is equipped with a 3/8" diameter section about 3/4" long that will fit perfectly into the threaded port on the left side of the upper radiator fitting. This is the cast iron tube that your upper radiator hose is connected to. You may have to take a round file or drill and clean out the crud inside the little hole under the threaded plug. The gauge usually comes with a male threaded locking nut that fits the female theread on the casting. It's a very simple installation.

Wow Boogity good info. Sounds simple Ill have to put one on my TO-30. JD I have a cirular cutout in my dash next to ampmeter also but I never knew what it was for. I guess they stamp those in original for an optional water temp guage.Man I cant beleive all the good stuff I learn here from you guys. So many things on my tractor I wondered" whats that for?" Now Im learning what they are. Cool.
